Confirmation came this morning from a hospital in Rome stating James Gandolfini died of cardiac arrest.
The 51 year old actor was rushed to the hospital on Wednesday night and was pronounced dead 20 minutes after multiple resuscitation attempts. A family friend,Michael Kobold told reporters Gandolfini, was vacationing in Rome and was discovered in his room at Rome's Boscolo Exedra Hotel by his 13 year old son Michael Gandolfini. Michael notified emergency crews and his father was rushed to the hospital but it was too late. was also in town for the Taormina Film Festival happening in Sicily to accept an award.
Raised in New Jersey, the actor was best known for his Emmy Winning portal as mob boss Tony Soprano in the HBO hit "The Sopranos". Gandolfini is survived by his wife, Deborah Lin, 8-month-old daughter, Liliana and his son ,Michael, with his ex-wife Marcy Wudarski, from whom he was divorced in December 2002.
