Tom Cruise with wife Katie Holmes and new dad Matthew McConaughey walked the red carpet at the Tropic Thunder premier last night at the Mann's Village theatre in LA along side the movies stars Ben Stiller, Robert Downey Jr and Jack Black. Everyone looked like they were having a good time, goofing around (inlcuding Jack Black and wife Tanya Haden showing off their dancing skills) as they made their way into the premiere.
The stars where not alone though, across the street from the theatre dozens of people from organizations such as the Special Olympics and the American Association of People with Disabilities protested the movie. They are saying the film has scenes featuring the liberal usage of a disparaging term retard) used to describe the mentally disabled. Fox news got words from Special Olympics global messenger Dustin Plunkett. He says, "When I heard about it, I felt really hurt inside, I cannot believe a writer could write something like that. It's the not the way that we want to be portrayed. We have feelings. We don't like the word retard. We are people. We're just like any other people out there. We want to be ourselves and not be discriminated against."
Despite hurt feelings from the protesting organiziations the movie will hit theatres on August 18th with speculation that it might blow The Dark Night out of its top box office spot. What do you think? Will you go see the movie?
BTW check out Robert Downey's mustache... love it or hate it?!
